How it works

How the Dyson groom tool works

The Dyson groom tool collects loose and flyaway dog hair during grooming. Simply release the trigger to remove hair from the slicker bristles and into the vacuum. The slicker bristles retract for protection and hygiene when the Dyson groom tool is not in use.

How to use

How to use the Dyson groom tool

Make sure your dog's coat is clean and completely dry and has no large knots or tangles. Attach the Dyson groom tool to the hose on your Dyson vacuum cleaner.

Groom your dog in the direction of the coat, using smooth, even strokes. Apply a little pressure as you groom to make sure the slicker bristles reach into the undercoat.

To suck the hair away, remove the Dyson groom tool from your dog's coat and release the trigger

Useful information about the Dyson groom tool

Healthy coat

Medium to long-haired dogs should be groomed 3-4 times a week. It keeps the coat looking clean. It also distributes the natural oils in the dog's skin, keeping the coat looking shiny.

Well-being

A dog's physical condition can affect its behaviour - for example, dogs with matted, unkempt fur can often appear low. Keeping a dog looking healthy through grooming can significantly change its character.

Bonding

Dogs enjoy being groomed. As an owner, it can be an excellent way of building trust with your animal. It also lets you check the dog for skin irritations, fleas or ticks.

Shedding

The Dyson groom tool removes loose hair and fur from the dog (leaving healthy hair on the animal). Because the tool sucks hair that's been removed straight into the vacuum, there's no need to clean up afterwards.

About the Dyson groom tool

The Dyson groom tool can be used with most Dyson upright and cylinder vacuums, but not with Dyson handhelds. To check if your machine is compatible, click here..

The body is made from tough polypropylene and ABS polycarbonate - the same materials as car dashboards and crash helmets. The bristles are stainless steel.

Other dog grooming tools are difficult to clean and they leave a mess on the floor. When attached to a Dyson vacuum cleaner, the Dyson groom tool:

  • Combines suction with an effective grooming tool to groom the dog's coat, taking away dead skin and flyaway hairs.
  • Captures flyaway hairs and allergens, giving your dog a healthier, cleaner coat.
  • The slicker bristles do not stick out, making it easier and safer to store than other groom tools.
  • The slicker bristles are controlled by a spring-load thumb trigger, which gives more control over the amount of pressure on the dog.

It took over a year to develop the Dyson groom tool. A team of Dyson engineers experimented with different types of dog grooming. Tests included bristle strength and different bristle angles.

As with all Dyson accessories, the Dyson groom tool has a 1 year guarantee - parts and labour are covered.

Safety

The Dyson groom tool has been through laboratory and home trial tests. The dog retains the hair it needs and is left with a shiny coat.

No. The Dyson groom tool was designed for use on dogs with medium to long hair. It is not recommended for use on other pets or on dogs with short hair or woollen coats.

If a dog does not like the sound of vacuum cleaners, the Dyson groom tool can be used independently. It can then be attached to the hose of a Dyson vacuum cleaner away from the dog for the hairs to be sucked up. For best results, however, it should be attached to the vacuum cleaner during grooming.

In the unlikely event of it getting stuck, the vacuum cleaner should be switched off. Remove the Dyson groom tool from the main vacuum and tease it out of the dog's coat.

No. Quite the opposite, in fact. The Dyson groom tool is designed to groom the dog's coat, taking away dead skin and flyaway hairs. The thumb pressure can be adjusted depending on the length of your dog's coat.

Do not use on delicate areas of your dog. For example the ears, stomach and around the genitals.

Using the Dyson groom tool

No. Dyson vacuum cleaners and tools are not to be used on anything wet.

No. The Dyson groom tool should only be used on dogs. Other Dyson accessories like a Mini turbine head can be attached to a Dyson vacuum to pick up hair from soft furnishings. To find Dyson accessories for your machine, click here.

The Dyson groom tool can be wiped clean with a damp cloth but should not be put in water. Self-cleaning describes how it captures hair and allergens before they hit the floor.

The Dyson groom tool was designed for medium to long-haired dogs. This recommendation is based on the length and angle of the bristles. Whilst the length of the bristles can be varied, it is not recommended for use on short-haired dogs in case it is uncomfortable for them.

The Dyson groom tool can be used independently of the vacuum cleaner. It will groom the dog’s coat but won’t have the cleaning feature, or be able to capture allergens. However, it could be attached to the hose of a Dyson vacuum cleaner away from the dog for the hairs to be sucked up.

It depends on how often the dog sheds. Regular grooming is beneficial to dog coats. Most grooming manuals recommend grooming your dog a couple of times a week.

No. Ensure your dog’s coat has all large knots and tangles removed before use.
